CICELY’S MUST-LISTENS
'Northern raised, London based' Cicely is a music photographer and DJ. She has photographed some of the UK underground’s biggest names, such as Skepta, Big Zuu and Novelist. Her photos have appeared on billboards across London, in locations such as Leicester Square and Euston, and has also created photo work for the likes of Nike, Vans and Footasylum. During lockdown she spent her time learning to DJ, and has since played sets across the country, in legendary clubs such as Fabric, XOYO and Corsica studios, and has appeared on platforms such as Keep Hush and Rinse FM. Her sets are known for hard hitting breaks, old school hardcore sounds and rave bangers. In 2022 she launched rave-based music platform ‘NRG CRU’, which has so far included both events and mixes, and is passionate about using the platform to spotlight other northern artists. She is proud to be northern, and aims to reflect that in everything she does.

1. Green Panthers
I love the melodies in this song. DJ Sofa is a rising star, and I love her sound. Racked records are also one of my favourite labels at the moment. They’ve had some banging releases this far, and everything they put out is consistently sick, from the releases to the visuals.
2. Naughteh Fourteh Shorteh Mix
Private Caller is by far one of my favourite producers. Hailing from Nottingham, you can really hear the northern influence within his production. He put together this northern inspired mix, and I absolutely love it.
3. Crush
Porchcrawler smashed it with this one, the sample of ’the jets - crush on you’, alongside the darker eerie sounds in this track make it bang.
4. Samantha
This one always gets me in my feels, there’s something about the piano that makes me emotional.
5. International Womens’ Month Mix Series
I’ve cheated a bit with this last selection. I couldn’t choose just 1 mix from this series, I had to choose the whole mix series. For international women’s month I asked a selection of my favourite artists from across the country to take part in this series for NRG CRU, there’s a mix of genres from garage to jungle, to jump up and beyond. All of them are so talented in their own way.
